About the Ride

The Paparoa Track is the first New Zealand Great Walk to be designed effectively as a shared-use track for mountain bikers and hikers from the outset. It crosses the Paparoa Range on the West Coast, taking you through spectacular limestone landscapes, alpine tops, and rich rainforests.

The track is approximately 55km long and is usually ridden over two days, with an overnight stay at one of the modern huts (Moonlight Tops Hut or Pororari Hut). It offers a mix of challenging climbs and rewarding descents.

Key Highlights

  • Moonlight Tops: Incredible panoramic views of the Southern Alps and the Tasman Sea.
  • Escarpment Track: Dramatic riding along the edge of the escarpment.
  • Pororari River: A beautiful descent through the lush Pororari River gorge.
  • Limestone Karst: Unique rock formations and geography specific to this region.
